Installation Information for 250psi Rated Retractable Injection Quills
Applies to Series EB-168, EB-155, EB-147, EB-148, EB-150, EB-153, and EB-151
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION DEMONSTRATION
Objective:
Replacing a 3/4" Stainless Steel solution tube from a 1-1/4" main connection with a dual bolt restraint system
Application Data:
Pipe Diameter: 60"
Pressure in the Pipe: 50–70 psi
Chemical Service: Aqua Ammonia
PRECAUTIONS
Injection quills are designed to deliver a chemical solution feed to the interior of a pressurized water/process main. The following precautions should be
taken to ensure proper and safe installation:
Become familiar with the components of the injector as listed below.
Minimize system pressures when retracting or inserting the Solution Tube.
Verify that the injector being installed is compatible with the intended chemical feed.
Ensure that the Restraint Chain and Restraint Hook are secured while the injector is under pressure. Do not rely on the Compression Gland to restrain the Solution Tube from retracting while in operation.
Do not over tighten the Compression Gland. Tighten only to the point where any leak stops. Over tightening the gland can, over time, cause
damage to PVC/CPVC Solution Tubes as well as the Compression O-ring.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING: SAF-T-FLO injectors are shipped in their operating position. Removal of the solution tube may be required prior to installing the injector onto the main.
Step 1: Remove the Solution Tube
Loosen the Packing Nut by turning counter-clockwise.
Undo the (2) nuts securing the Upper Chain Plate to the Restraint Bolts.
Retract the Solution Tube from the Main Connection Assembly until the Limit Chain is completely extended. Loosen the Packing Nut more if needed.
Close the valve of the Ball Valve. If the valve does not want to close, ensure the Solution Tube has been retracted far enough so that the tip of
the tube is not obstructing the valve from closing.
With the valve closed, disconnect the (2) Limit Chains from the Threaded Connectors attached to the Upper Chain Plate and completely
remove the Solution Tube.
Step 2: Install the Ball Valve
WARNING: Do not use a pipe wrench to install the ball valve.
Apply suitable thread sealant to male threads of the Main Connection thread and install into desired location.
Make sure the Ball Valve is in the closed position.
Step 3: Install the Solution Tube
WARNING: For injectors not provided with a check valve, make sure to provide a suitable form of isolation to prevent back flow from the solution tube prior to opening the ball valve.
Insert the outlet end of the Solution Tube into the Packing Nut until the tip is stopped by the closed valve face.
Connect the (2) Limit Chains to the Threaded Connectors and close the jaw of the Threaded Connector.
SLOWLY OPEN the Ball Valve and begin to slide the Solution Tube down into the main. If water begins to leak past the Packing Nut, tighten until the leak stops.
Keep inserting the Solution Tube until the Upper Chain Plate is seated on the Restraint Bolts. Secure the Solution Tube into the operating
position by securing the Upper Chain Plate to the Restraint Bolts with the nuts provided.
